Dicentra Spectabilis Bleeding Heart Plant

A classic cottage garden favourite, Dicentra spectabilis (now formally known as Lamprocapnos spectabilis) produces stunning heart-shaped pink and white flowers that dangle gracefully from elegant, arching stems. This hardy herbaceous perennial is perfectly suited to shaded and partially shaded spots, bringing colour and charm to borders, woodland areas and containers alike. The delicate, fern-like foliage provides a beautiful backdrop to the distinctive pendulous blooms, creating a romantic display from late spring into early summer.

Bleeding Heart thrives in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil and is ideal for planting beneath trees or alongside other shade-loving perennials. Once established, it will return reliably year after year, forming attractive clumps that gradually spread over time. The plant naturally dies back after flowering, making it a good companion for later-season perennials that will fill the space through summer and autumn.
